Start and finish moved

As you may have heard, the winter has been exceptionally mild here in Iceland. As a result of this, we no longer have any snow at our regular start and finishing area. Therefore, Fossavatnsgangan will be opperatet according to our „plan B“ this year:

Races on Saturday (50 km CL, 25 km CL, 12,5 km CL):
• Start and finish will be at be at Breiðadalsheiði, which was the starting point of the race until 2013.
• The 50 km race will be shortened to 42 km, done by  skiing 2x21 km. The 25 km distance will be shortened to a single 21 km loop and the 12,5 km will be shortened to 8 km.
• We will be using a „floating start“ for all skiers except the elite group. The elite group will be sent off by a mass start at 08:00.
• „Floating start“ means that the skiers can start at any time between 08:00 and 10:00. You will take a bus up to the start and then simply go as soon as you are ready. Timing will start when you cross the starting line and stop when you cross the finish line
• All skiers must take a bus (free of charge) to the start. No other vehicles will be allowed on the road.
• All buses leave from Torfnes sports hall only. First buses are due to leave at 07:30 (except the bus for the elite which leaves at 06:30). Further information on the buses will be published shortly.
• There will not be any cut-off time this year.
• Despite the distances being shortended, the race will still be valid for your Worldloppet stamps.

Races on Thursday (25 km F, 5 km CL, 1 km CL).
• Start and finish will be at be at Breiðadalsheiði, which was the starting point of the race until 2013.
• The 25 km distance will be shortened to 21 km.
• Skiers will be sent off by a mass start.
• All buses (free of charge) leave from Torfnes sports hall only. First buses are due to leave at 15:00. Further information on the buses will be published shortly.
• Private vehicles are allowed to drive to the start on Thursday. They are obliged to park on the old Botnsheidi road, as directed by our staff.
